Cassava Mosaic Disease outbreak reported in southern zone

Cassava Mosaic Disease (CMD), caused by cassava mosaic begomoviruses, is one of the most damaging diseases of cassava in Africa. A recent outbreak has been confirmed in several communities in the southern zone, linked to the use of infected planting material. Response measures: - Replace infected planting material with certified, disease-free cuttings. - Plant CMD-resistant varieties where available. - Control whitefly populations, the main vector of the disease. - Collaborate with extension agents to identify and remove infected plants. WAVE teams are supporting local partners with diagnostic confirmation and distribution of clean planting materials.
